In person in Devon
In-person therapy in Devon, near Ashburton
I offer in-person psychotherapy, including EMDR, art psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS), from a calm, private therapy room about a mile outside Ashburton in Devon, and the same work is also available online across the UK if travelling is difficult.
A calm, private room near Ashburton
My therapy room is at my home in the countryside, about a mile outside Ashburton, in the TQ13 area of Devon. Ashburton sits on the south-eastern edge of Dartmoor, just off the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth, so it is a straightforward drive from much of south Devon.
The room is quiet and set a little apart from the everyday, with comfortable seating and space to spread out art materials when we use them. There is free parking, and the surroundings are peaceful and rural. Because it is my home, I keep the precise address private and share it with you, along with simple directions, once we have arranged to meet.
Areas I am easily reached from
People travel to see me from Ashburton itself and from the towns and villages nearby, as well as from further across Dartmoor and south Devon. If you have been looking for a therapist near you, you may be closer than you think.
- Ashburton and Buckfastleigh
- Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh
- Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton
- Totnes and Dartington
- Ivybridge and the South Hams
- The villages of Dartmoor and the wider south Devon countryside
What being in the room together can offer
For some people, and for some kinds of work, being physically in the same room matters. There is something in sharing a quiet space, and in being met face to face, that can help you feel steady enough to stay with difficult things.
This is especially true of art psychotherapy, where we work with real materials such as paint, clay, pastels and collage. Making something with your hands, and having it there in the room between us, is a different experience from holding it up to a screen. Some trauma work can also feel more contained when we are together in person, though EMDR and the other ways I work adapt well to online too.
The ways I work, in person or online
Whether we meet in person or online, the therapy itself is the same. I draw on EMDR, attachment-informed EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and art psychotherapy, and I often weave them together around what you need. You can read more about each approach on its own page, and about how I combine them.
Practical things
We usually begin with a free 20-minute introductory conversation, by phone or video, so you can get a feel for how I work and ask anything you need to before deciding. Sessions are 60 minutes at £90, or 90 minutes at £135, paid by bank transfer in advance. I work with adults and young people, though not with children under 16.
If getting to Ashburton is difficult, whether because of distance, travel, health or time, we can do exactly the same work online, wherever you are in the UK. Many people mix the two, meeting in person when they can and online when it is easier.
Common questions
Where exactly is your practice?
My therapy room is at my home in the countryside, about a mile outside Ashburton in Devon (the TQ13 area). Because it is a home practice, I keep the exact address private, and I share the precise location and directions with you once we have arranged your first session.
Which areas do you cover for in-person therapy?
I see people from Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Ivybridge and the villages across Dartmoor and south Devon. Ashburton is just off the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth, so it is an easy drive from much of the county.
Is there parking, and what is the setting like?
Yes, there is free parking, and the room is in a quiet, rural setting a little outside the town. It is private and calm, with space to use art materials when we do. If you have any access needs, please tell me when we speak and I will let you know what to expect.
Can I see you online instead of travelling to Devon?
Yes. I work online across the UK and internationally, and the same approaches, including EMDR and IFS, translate well to video. Some people meet in person when they can and switch to online when travel is hard. You can read more on my online therapy page.
